Save the Date and Wedding Invitations

January 10, 2011

Earlier we answered some questions about save the dates here.

Invitations are a sneak peek of what to expect for your wedding.  A formal wedding may have layers of luxurious paper with ribbon:

Pocketfold invitations are very popular, with a pocket for the response card and directions:

Or maybe you want a classic wedding invitation:

You should order your wedding invitations three to four months before your wedding.  There are so many ways to word a wedding invitation.  Usually whoever is hosting (ie. paying) for the wedding is included on the invitation.   Although many parents are still on the invitation even if they are not paying for the entire wedding.  As we have said before, the rules for weddings are much more relaxed and you can word your invitation any way you and your family would like.

Once you choose your invitations, you will recieve a proof of the invitation before it goes to print.  When you recieve the proof, both the bride and groom should look very carefully over the proof.  Also, show the proof to family members to triple check.

Invitations should be sent six to eight weeks before the wedding.  Ask for responses back three to four weeks before the wedding.  For some reason, even if you put a stamp on the response envelopes, you will not get them all back.  You will need to call those that have not responded.  Do not assume they are not attending your wedding. Their response may have been lost in the mail, they may have simply forgot or they told your dad they were coming a thought that was good enough!
